There are two key measurements you'll need to determine your bra size. It is important that the measurement is snug, and not taken around outer wear. If possible, have someone else do the measuring so you can maintain normal posture, and you can be pretty sure that the tape measurer isn't twisted and that it makes a even loop around the body.
1. Measure around your chest around the fullest part of your breast. (The green line, 1) Write this measurement down on a slip of paper.
Please note:if one breast has been taken or one breast is noticeably larger than the other, you will want to wear a bra during this measurement and fill in the smaller side cup with tissue or other material that will give you a symmetrical look.
2. Measure around the lower chest, just under the breast. (The lilac line, 2) Now add 5" to this number. This is your "band" size. (The 34 in 34 B as an example.) Write this measurement down below the measurement you took in step 1. the rule of thumb is that you always round up to the nearest, even whole number.
Please note: If you have the option of choosing identical sizes for the right and left (cosmetic enhancements, bi-lateral surgery, etc), you can skip to the Body-Frame Guidelines, chart 2, to the left.
3. Subtract the band measurement from your first measurement and use the Bra Cup Size chart at the left to arrive at your cup size. (See chart 1)
EXAMPLE:
The measurement around the full chest (Step 1 above) is 40"
The measurement just below the breast (Step 2) is 32". Add 5 to the 32 to arrive at your band size of 37, which you round up to the closest even number - 38"
You subtract your band size, 38 from your chest measurement 40. The difference is 2".
Using the Bra Cup Size Chart, you see than the 2" difference would lead you to try a cup size B.
Therefore, you would try a 38 B bra.
Of course this is only a guide. In this example you rounded up to get your band size and depending on the fit of the bra, as each style seems to fit a little different, a C cup may be best for you.
